The box is there. Most of you are inside of it. Everyone in this box is under the assumption that if you push the power button on your computer, your computer will turn off. Well, fellow P-W-N-Ders, I'm here to show you the exit to this box.

I know this may seem like an odd tip, trick, funsie, but I was bored and felt the need to enlighten you. Moving right along.

Not all computers act alike and that's just not acceptable. As you notice, some of your power buttons shut your shit down while others put you into standy, hibernate, load porn, whatever.

But what if you don't want the button to work at all? What if you want it to load 2girls1cup in fullscreen? What if you want it to activate your USB coffee maker? Well, these things can be done. The last 2 will naturally have to be custom programmed in, but it's still possible. Other than that, you can switch the power button settings from shut down to hibernate to standby and so on.

Vista: Type "Powercfg.cpl" in the search box without quotes. The Power Options window will appear. Simply click on "Choose what the power button does" on the left. At this point you can assign a specific function to the power button.

Windows XP: Click Start > Run and then type "Powercfg.cpl". Don't include the quotes, dumbass. Click the Advanced tab and you'll see all the options on what the power button can do.

Strange thing is, XP gives you the option to have Windows ask you what you want to do when the button is pressed. Vista does not. Vista's a bossy sibling who tells and doesn't ask.

Welcome to the outside of the box!:carrot:

What about Windows 7~??? ;)

I have used my power button 0 times in the last year. I didn't know anyone still used it.

I use it to turn the power on to the computer.

That is all, move along.

To power off your computer computer quickly, check to see if there is a "rocker" switch in the back where the power cord plugs in. If you have one, simply rock the switch off and your computer will shut off instantly.

If not, yank the plug really hard. :D
