See, this is why the motion picture industry sucks.

The movie will come out and have its entire plot posted on Wikipedia, spoiler-containing reviews everywhere else online, and a.. ahem... "online" version long before the film legitimately becomes available outside the US.

All this lady wants to do is watch the movie like everyone else, but nooooo, the motion picture people have to "zone" shit to maximize the sale of plastic discs before allowing it to appear on a theater screen somewhere else.

I guess they've given you no choice but to watch the "online" version when it becomes available in a few days, if you do that sort of thing.

I saw it last night.

Epic.

I can't begin to tell you how much I loved it..

Highlights:
- perfect explanation of 'starting again'
- great young cast (I was expecting to be disappointed)
- I loved the inside jokes and fan shit

Don't want to include any spoilers.

Even if you're not a fan, you should watch this!

It was indeed epic and the plot mechanism they used to make this movie a franchise reboot is well done.

I'll write a review at some point...

and Star Trek - The PWND Mini Review (http://www.p-w-n-d.com/?p=4215) is in!

I don't complain.
Many axxo movies I've downloaded and watched I ended up catching the trailer for in theatres like 2 months later.

Plus I hate the fucking theatre.

Oh, and the movie was alright. I'm not a trekky and enjoyed most of it.
Hate the time travel shit though. People really need to drop this. Unless you're doing Time Cop over again, you don't need to employ mind numbing devices to explain why your shit doesn't match up with original shit.

My wife begged me to take her, so I did. This is copypasta from my post on SPF.

I'm not going to touch all the Star Trek nerd shit that they got wrong, I'd be here all fucking day.

I'm also going to ignore the plot holes big enough to drive a train through. Again, I would be here all day.

What I will say is that the lens flare thing had me fucking annoyed shitless in the first three minutes. It's blinding and in my opinion as a movie watcher it really detracts from the shot. Here and there it would be okay but it was literally washing the scenes out in some shots for no gain.

Visually the ships were done well. I don't have a problem with CGI space scenes and I thought they did that aspect of it well. I only wish they had made a better movie to use such good animation with. In the hands of someone making a good Trek movie, it could have been awesome.

The acting; oy. The only good performance was done by the guy who plays McCoy (Bones). He nailed the original character without coming off like a cartoon or a parody. He really seemed like DeForrest Kelley as a younger man playing the same role.

Every single other actor could have been replaced with any other actor and you would have gotten the same movie in my opinion. Simon Pegg played fucking Simon Pegg. He was the same character as the nerdy guy in Mission Impossible 3. Sulu, Uhura, Kirk, Chekov, nothing special.

The guy they got for Spock looked good visually but didn't remind me of younger Spock at all.

And Leonard Nimoy looked horrible. I hope that was makeup to make him looked ragged because he looked sick. http://www.theforum.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

It was pretty much the movie I expected it to be, so meh.

I will say the Nokia thing didn't bother me. It was there, but it was screaming 'HI IT'S A NOKIA!!!!' or anything. The ring fucked me up though because it's the same ring my phone has. :\

I didn't notice the lens flare at all, I was too busy watching the movie, not looking at the movie. :neener:

My wife, a non-Trekkie, is badgering me to go see this movie for a second time.

She really likes this movie.

Not sure how you could miss it, it was blinding in some parts to the point where I had to squint/look away. Seriously it was obnoxious. JJ Abrams himself said it was overdone. Meh.

The wife and I saw it again yesterday.

The lens flare wasn't bad or distracting at all. I think people are over-nit-picking this film because of what it does to the canon-ality of the previous Trek films/series.

As a science guy, I was very happy that Abrams demonstrated some of the physics of real space in this film, such as:

1. No sound in space. There are a lot of sequences when a human is in space and the sound is immediately silenced: woman getting sucked out of the hull breach on the Kelvin, and the guys spacediving before they hit the atmosphere (notice the sound returns after Chekhov states the divers hit the atmosphere.)

2. Lens Flare. Surprise! If you are in space without a polarized visor on, you don't have a nice light diffracting atmosphere handy, so when that star shines in your face, HUGE lens flare. NASA astronauts doing space walks must pull down a polarizing visor for their face shield every 90 minutes when the sun comes out, otherwise, the lens flare and general light wash out would make them blinded. All cameras need filters too.

So we can assume the "eyes" we see the movie through are not polarized. It didn't bother us and wasn't distracting at all.

Only problem with that line of thought is the fact that there is a shitload of lens flare on the bridge of the Enterprise. Surely they aren't making the panels so bright that the poor schmucks sitting at them need a visor? Even if you assume it's coming from the viewscreen, that still doesn't make any sense.

I am. You didn't know this? Shit I didn't even touch on all the Star Trek shit they got wrong, or the ginormous plot holes.

Edit: JJ Abrams admits lens flares are "ridiculous"

http://io9.com/5230278/jj-abrams-tells-us-why-star-trek-has-so-many-lens-flares

"I know there are certain shots where even I watch and think, "Oh that's ridiculous, that was too many." But I love the idea that the future was so bright it couldn't be contained in the frame."

Who am I to argue with the hack that made it?
