This past Friday I started coming down with a head cold. By yesterday morning, it's here full force. I've been spending the time since in a DayQuil/NyQuil coma. Yay.

Thanks to the lack of pseudoephedrine, DayQuil & NyQuil officially suck.

I picked up some Afrin nose spray. It's a nasal decongestant that you spray right into each nostril. And holy shit does it work.

i had to make a drug cocktail this morning just to get out of bed. tussin, children's homeopathic vitamin c+ tablets (all i had), acetamenophin and a scalding hot shower. felt great for about 10 minutes, and i'm right back to feeling like total shit. massive headache, plugged and throbbing sinuses, runny nose, and horrible, painful coughing. my whoile body hurts - i can't even move my eyes inside my head without pain.

my oldest son is now sick, too - we both got it from his little brother - so the only good news is he's home today and i don't have to walk him to school while in this condition.

Prolonged use of Afrin can cause permanent damage to your sinuses. I heard a rumor about it, then confirmed it with my doctor. He suggested no more than 3 days.

I love the stuff. It clears you up like magic.

my sinuses have planned an all-out revolt and are currently kicking the shit out of me. every sneeze feels like someone just punched me in the soul. i'm leaking from my eyes and nose so much people keep asking me if i just watched 'steel magnolias'.

Roger that. By Day Two, the Afrin stopped being effective so I stopped using it.

I'm finally taking some real deal 12-hr pseudoephedrine for the sinuses, which seems to be helping the congestion, but now its draining into my chest, so I've called in the Tussin DM (anti-cough, plus expectorant) to mitigate the new coughing fun.

My desk looks like a fucking pharmacy now, but I refuse to visit a doctor unless over-the-counter shit can't kill the cold.

My soul hurts.

pretty gross. i wouldnt have tried them had my ear, nose and throat specialist not recommended them. BUT, since he did, i started using them when i start getting a cold and the longest it lasts is like 3 days, which is a big improvement from 7 or so days...

I remember for a while when I was about 6 years old, early on weekend mornings when my parents were still in bed I'd climb up on the kitchen worktop so I could reach the delicious medicine at the top of the cupboard. I started out liking the sweet strawberry/banana ones but then moved on to the really bitter/concentrated menthol cough syrups which really gave your throat a kick. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't addicted - I just liked the flavour and had one spoon of each. I never got the shakes. Or withdrawl.

I got me some Amoxicillin in an 875mg horse pill. Twice daily for 10 days, and modified my over-the-counter cocktail to 12-hr Claritin-D (contains 120mg pseudoephedrine) and 4hr-Robitussin DM (contains 200mg guaifensen).

Started on it last night with dinner.

I'm already coughing up/blowing out tons of shit. Wootah! *snap kick*
