Facebook has adopted the Jabber protocol for its chat system.
This requires that you have set up a username for yourself in FaceBook (easily done in your account preferences).
Simply follow the instructions at the link below to get your Jabber-supporting IM client to have FaceBook Chat access.

I've got mine set up with iChat and it works pretty damn nicely.
